And so the journey begins.

One of the first steps you will encounter on the road to China is your interview. Once beginning your application, one of the team will be organising a skype call with you.

But what’s the interview like and what do you need to prepare?

We’ve taken your top questions and put them in one place. Here. So read on and all will be revealed

WHAT IS THE INTERVIEW LIKE?

The interview is a 30-45 minute long conversation over Skype, and although it is an interview, we like to keep it light and conversational, no grilling. We’re here to get to know you, your motivation, what interests you about China and any relevant experience you have.

Be prepared for a friendly face, open questions and to be talking about yourself.

WHAT IS THE INTERVIEW FOR?

Your interview is to get to know you better and make sure you are the right fit for a summer camp in China. The interview, alongside your application, will be given to the Camp Directors who will then use it as a tool to see where you would fit at camp.

WHERE WILL THE INTERVIEW BE?

We want to make it as easy as possible so all the interviews will be on Skype. This way we get to see you but you can do it from the comfort of your home.

HOW LONG IS THE INTERVIEW?

The interview will run for 30-45 minutes. Sometimes to get the most out of you and your application, the interview may run a little longer. Plan for an extra 30 minutes to make sure that both you and the interviewer aren’t rushed at the end.

Once your interview is finished, it’s a brilliant time to ask all those burning questions and find out more about summer camp/ what happens next, we’re here to answer anything you might think of.

WHAT QUESTIONS WILL I BE ASKED?

Alongside the information that you have given us in your application, you will also be asked about you and your background. We are keen to know all about you, your personality and why you want to go. Before the interview - think about some achievements you’re proud of, examples of you in a team and what is it about China which really interests you.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

We would say that having your application with you will be a big help and after, it’s good to have on your to chat about improvements and bits to add. But other than that, we won’t need anything from you.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

It’s an informal interview so there is no need to dress up - if you want to wear a suit, feel free, but most people choose to dress comfortably and casually. There is no need to dress to impress.

WHAT SHOULD I DO TO PREPARE?

The best way to prepare is to fill in your application as much as possible. The more you add, the more our team can tailor their questions to you.

Finishing off your application will also highlight any questions you might want to ask, or if you’re confused about anything the interview is the best time to bring it up and get your answers.

If there is anything else on your mind that you want to know, call us for a chat at our HQ, we’re always here to help.
